DAP Families

Together We Make A Difference

Why Should I Volunteer?

You should volunteer at school because we are the parents who have inherited a program that was started by the unrelenting advocacy of other parents and caring professionals 30 years ago.  It takes a lot of research, planning and effort to make lasting positive changes, but together we can make this program the best it can possibly be for the students, the parents and the staff and all who come after us.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. Classroom Helper:  This program consists of parents, grandparents and family with students at an off-site location such as Christiana High, Gauger, Glasgow, Stubbs, Etc. who volunteer just 1 hour of their time twice per school year to deliver gifts and goodies to the staff at your child's school.
  2. Book Fair:  The DAP book fair is held each fall usually in September.  We need assistance covering all shifts each day as well as volunteers to assist with the set up and pack up for the fair.
  3. Toy Drive:  Our toy drive is held in November each year.  Volunteers are needed to sort the toys and set up the room for the teachers to be able to come in and make selections for their classrooms.
  4. Day of Fun Committee:  This is a committee to plan and execute our DAP Day of Fun held in May.  We will hold meetings at the convenience of the members.
  5. Holiday Staff Appreciation: Volunteers are needed to deliver gifts and goodies to the staff at the Brennen School as well as facilitate the raffle for our holiday event held in December.
  6. Spring Staff Appreciation: Volunteers are needed to set up and break down the staff appreciation breakfast as well as facilitate the raffle at the Brennen School held in early May.

Task Force Sub-Committee Descriptions

1.      Long term planning- This will be a statewide committee involving all DAP sites as well as state Department of Education (DOE).  They will not only study and discuss options for long-term planning of the DAP program statewide; they will attempt to redefine the role of the statewide director’s role within the program. Committee Contact: montagnebeau@aol.com

2.      Calendar committee- This committee will be responsible for monitoring the district calendar to be sure it is in the best interest of our students and program.  Additional discussions centering around a DAP specific calendar will be needed by this committee to be able to effectively present a strong case to district for implementation of such a calendar.  This committee should also work with administrators on submitting the proposal to district for the DAP summer calendar in an attempt to get as close as possible to the 37 instructional day limit as stated in state code. Committee Contact: mandiduffy@yahoo.com

3.      School Board Committee- This committee should consist of parents who are willing to attend monthly Christina School Board meetings on a rotating basis and speak on issues important to our program as determined by information obtained by the other committees. Committee Contact: noochfred@msn.com

4.      Legislative Committee- This committee should keep abreast of legislative issues that may affect funding or other aspects of our program and advise when parent contact with local legislators is necessary.  Keeping in contact with ASD will be vital for this group.
